Legislation went into effect in August 2012 regarding all students (not just athletes) who sustain a concussion while participating in any activity.
The District has a policy that addresses any student that sustains a concussion on or off school grounds. All concussions must be reported to the health office. Students must submit a doctor's note with the diagnosis and any restrictions or accommodations that need to be made. The house counselor, team of teachers, and the PE department are notified of the injury. All students must remain in the health office for PE.
If the student is actively participating in Scarsdale Athletics, once a doctor’s note is received the student will begin the “Return to Play” protocol. If the student is not participating in athletics, once a doctor’s note is received stating the student is cleared for full activity, they may resume full PE participation. Please see below for the updated policy adopted January 2025.
